Ostrander & McCormick Record First-Place Results At NCAA Outdoor Event

Fresh off of the indoor track and field season for collegiate track and field; Allie Ostrander and Danielle McCormick, both 2015 graduates from the central peninsula-one from KCHS and one from Soldotna High School, recorded outstanding performances at the Stanford Invitational and  San Francisco State Distance Carnival, the largest West Coast outdoor track and field meet of the season-thus far.

 

Ostrander posts fastest 3000M Steeplechase

Allie Ostrander in her first 3000M Steeplechase event since she won the national championship in June, competiting for the Boise State Broncos, recorded the fastest time of the outdoor season and the fastest time in the world so far in the 3000M steeplechase.  Allie completed the race in 9:38.57, a personal best for Ostrander.  It was faster than her championship time last June at the NCAA championships.  Ostrander pulled away from the field winning by more than eight seconds.

“I was like, I’m going to go out there and see what happens.  I think that having good people to race against really helps me.”

 

Allie’s performance is the fastest in the world so far, the fastest women’s NCAA time for the season and the 14th fastest time in NCAA history.

” I was really surprised.  I didn’t think I would PR today so I’m happy.  I guess it just goes to show I can trust my coach and he knows what to do and when.  I was really pleased with today.”

 

Ostrander had taken some time off after the indoor season; now she records the second-fastest time in school history for the Broncos.

 

McCormick proves fastest Division II 800M female

Also at the Stanford Invitational this weekend, Danielle McCormick, from UAA and Soldotna High School, broke into the top-16 in the 800M NCAA outdoor event.  Finishing 16th overall in a stacked field at Stanford University.  Dani McCormick’s time of 2:08.82 provisionally qualifies her to the NCAA Division II championships.  McCormick won the NCAA Division II 800M indoor championship about a month ago.  Dani was the only Division II athlete to qualify in the top-16 in a field that was dominated by NCAA Division I athletes, independent and professional track and field athletes.

Dani McCormick then made the run over to the San Fransisco State Distance Carnival where she joined the UAA 4X400M relay team for an overall championship.  UAA takes first place with a time of 3:43.01 with McCormick listed as the number two runner  in the four-person relay, outracing Cal Baptist and Boise State.

 

The NCAA track and filed season just getting underway.  The NCAA Division II track and field championships will be May 24-266 in North Carolina; the Division I track and field championships from June 6-8 in Eugene, Oregon.
