Alaska Hockey Teams Close-Out National Championship Play

The national championships in a number of divisions for USA Hockey continued throughout the weekend, with championship Monday on tap for today; unfortunately, no Alaska teams (and no local athletes) have advanced to the championship round.

 

Results involving area players competing for Alaska.

Girls Tier II U-19    Marlbourgh, Massachusetts

The Alaska All-Stars, with SoHi’s Journey Miller and KCHS’s Alyssa Stanton, fell to the San Jose Jr. Sharks 3-0 on Sunday in the tournament’s semi-final qualifier.  The Sharks advance to the U-19 championship game on Monday.

The Alaska All-Stars defeated the Wisconsin Selects 3-1 on Saturday; Journey Miller recording a goal and an assist.

Boys Tier II U-18     Green Bay, Wisconsin

The Alaska Oilers, featuring Levi Mese and Matt Hagel from KCHS, dropped a pair of weekend games.  The Oilers fell on Saturday to the Tricity Eagles 6-5; Levi Mese scoring two goals for the Oilers.  On Sunday, the Oilers were eliminated with a 7-3 loss to the Cosco Bay Mariners; Mese scored a 3rd-period goal for the Oilers.

Boys Tier II U-16    Wayne, New Jersey

The Alaska Wolves, featuring Galen Brantley III and Cade Appelhanz from Soldotna, fell twice over the weekend and were eliminated on Sunday.  The Wolves dropped a 4-2 decision on Saturday to the New Hampshire Avalanche; Galen Brantley III scored a 1st-period goal.  On Sunday, the Wolves were eliminated with a 5-2 loss to the Atlanta Phoenix.
