Peninsula Oilers Defeat Mat-Su Miners 3-2 In Extra Innings

The Peninsula Oilers continued up their eight-game road trip, sweeping a two-game set against the Mat-Su Miners, with a 3-2 in extra innings victory on Wednesday night.

The Oilers advance to 6-2, leading the Alaska Baseball League standings through the first week of ABL play.

The Oilers scored three, unanswered runs after trailing 2-0 against the Miners through the first five innings.

Trailing 2-0 in the top of the sixth inning, Oilers designated hitter Ryan Novis lead off the inning with a triple. He scored on an RBI ground-out by Bryce Begell, trimming the Miners lead to 2-1.

With Paul Kunst aboard at second and two outs, Kunst scores on a two-base throwing error by the Miners tying the game 2-2.

After Oilers relief pitcher Calvin Farris tossed a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning, Andrew Lopez threw the final three innings for the Oilers, allowing no runs on one base hit.  Lopez records the win.

In the top of the tenth inning, following a pair of hit batters,  Oilers first baseman Michael Yourg drove in Ryan Koch on an RBI single giving the Oilers their first lead of the game 3-2.

In the bottom half of the frame, Lopez induced a game-ending 5-4-3 double play, which sealed the Oilers sixth win of the season, and a sweep of the Miners in the first two games of the season series.

The Miners fall to 3-5 with the loss.

 

Oilers Continue Eight-Game Road Trip Through Weekend

The Oilers take on the Anchorage Glacier Pilots in the first of a three-game series Thursday at 7:10 p.m. The road trip continues with a trio of games against Chugiak Eagle River Chinooks before the Oilers return to Coral Seymour Memorial Park on June 20th against the Chinooks.
