The Peninsula Oilers, behind a six-inning shutout tossed by starting pitcher Mike Lopez and a pair of multiple hit innings, captured their third-straight win, defeating the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks 5-1 at Coral Seymour Memorial Park on Thursday.
The Oilers ,with the win, improve their Alaska Baseball League leading record to 11-4, the Chinooks drop to 5-8 with the loss.

The Oilers jumped in front of the Chinooks in the bottom of the second inning. With Bryce Begell at the plate, Grant Wood on third base and Brian Leonhardt at first; Leonhardt broke for second to draw a throw, was caught in run-down allowing Wood to score. The Oilers took a 1-0 lead.
The Oilers added two more runs in the third on three hits against Chinooks starter Anthony Becerra. Runs scored by Tyler Duke, Paul Kunst and Ryan Novis put the Oilers up 3-0.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Oilers struck for two more runs, coming on a two-run RBI double by Grant Wood.
Oilers Mike Lopez tossed six-innings, striking out six and allowing one hit, recording his second win of the ABL season. Lopez owns the lowest ERA in the ABL at 0.00.
The Oilers have outscored the Chinooks through the first two games of the five-game series 14-2.
Oilers Continue Homestand Against Chinooks Through Sunday
The Oilers host the Chinooks for game three of the five-game series Friday night at 7 p.m, the first of three-straight days of free baseball at Coral Seymour Memorial Park.
Friday, AK USA Federal Credit Union sponsors Peninsula Oilers baseball with a 7 p.m game time. Friday is also Food Truck Friday’s at the Park.
Saturday is Elks Flag Day at the park, sponsored by the area Elks Club’s. A flag ceremony commemorating the history of American flags is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
Sunday features a 2 p.m. matinee with Birch Ridge Community Church buying-out the ballpark, free admission for Sunday’s contest.
