Twins End Road Trip With Pair Of Victories: Ready To Host Wood Bat Tournament

The American Legion Post 20 Twins rebounded from a pair of league losses on Thursday with a pair of victories over North Pole on Friday to close a road series in Anchorage against Service, Ketchikan and North Pole.

 

Twins 3 – Service 6   (league game)

The Twins, tied at 3-3 after three innings, fell 6-3 to Service on Thursday.  Cody Quelland on the mound allowed five runs, only on e earned, and recorded four strikeouts.

 

Twins 1 – Ketchikan 3  (league game)

Logan Smith pitched 6 1/3 strong innings on Thursday against the Ketchikan Post; only to fall 3-1 to Ketchikan.  Smith recorded eight strikeouts and allowed three, unearned runs.

For the split doubleheader, the Twins allowed seven unearned runs, out of nine runs scored.

 

Twins 11 – North Pole 1   (league game)

On Friday at Bartlett High School, the Post 20 Twins overpowered North Pole 11-1 in six innings.  Austin Asp pitched four innings allowing one run for the win; Austin also went 3 for 4 at the plate with 2 runs scored.

 

Twins 5 – North Pole 4   (league game)

The Twins downed North Pole 5-4 with a walk-off run plated in the bottom of the seventh inning.  Post 20, with the game tied, scored on a throwing error on an attempted double-play.  Paul Steffenson scored the game-winning run, coming home on an errant throw to first base by the North Pole catcher.

 

The Post 20 Twins stand at 8-4 in league play and 11-7 overall and return to Kenai to host the Bill Miller Big Fish Wood Bat Tournament running July 3-5.  See earlier story on sports page for details.
