The Kenai River Brown Bear Junior A hockey team host the Janesville Jets on Friday and Saturday in a Fight Breast Cancer weekend at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex.
The Brown Bears, currently in first place in the Midwest Division of the North American Hockey League, will combine hockey and fundraising with Fight Breast Cancer Weekend activities and jersey auctions added in with divisional hockey action.
Friday and Saturday games are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. start times at the SRSC. Central Peninsula Hospital has joined the Brown Bears in the weekend fundraising, awareness-raising events.
The Brown Bears look to build on a two-game, home sweep of the Chippewa Steel and to build on their division-best 7-3 overall record. The Brown Bears ave outscored opponents 34-21 in the early season. Kenai River goaltender Gavin Enright was named NAHL Midwest Division Star of the Week recording 48 save on 50 shots in the Chippewa series.
The Brown Bears opened the season with a two-game sweep of Janesville on the Jets home ice in mid-September, downing the Jets 5-2 and 7-3. Friday and Saturday games are scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. puck drop with jersey auctions during the intermission breaks.
