With only five teams in the Northern Lights Conference volleyball tournament and with the Northern Lights Conference still receiving three berths to the 4A state volleyball tournament; the Soldotna Stars locked-in a state berth with a victory over Palmer in the NLC volleyball tournaments first day of competition at Colony High School.
The SoHi Stars defeated Palmer 3-1 in the tournament’s pairing between the #2 and #3 seeds. Bailey Leach and Ituau Tuisaula finished with nine kills each and Holleigh Jamie recorded 15 digs.
SoHi advances to the tournament’s semi-final, winner’s contest on Friday at 1 p.m. against Colony. The Knights, following an opening victory over Kodiak, defeated #1 seed Wasilla 3-0 downing a Warrior team which was unbeaten in conference play in the regular season. Wasilla will need two wins on Friday to advance to the 4A state tournament.
A SoHi loss to Colony and a SoHi loss in the 6 p.m. game on Friday and the Stars still qualify to the 4A state volleyball tournament as a #3 seed from the Northern Lights Conference. A SoHi victory over Colony and the Stars advance to the NLC championship game scheduled for noon on Saturday.
