The End of the Road hockey tournament closed with an 11-0 victory for Service High over the Kenai Kardinals on Saturday and a 3-3 tie between host Homer and Wasilla at the Kevin Bell Arena in Homer.
The Kenai Kardinals will host the Homer Mariners on Tuesday at the Kenai Multi-Purpose Facility to open Railbelt Conference play. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. and coverage will be provided on ESPN 1140AM and www.radiokenai.com
Service 11 – Kenai 0
The Kardinals battled strong through the first eleven minutes of the contest against Service, trailing only 1-0; then the Cougars closed with ten goals in just over two periods of hockey to down Kenai 11-0 and finish tournament play at 3-0 and earning the tournament championship trophy.
Homer 3 – Wasilla 3
The Homer Mariners and Wasilla Warriors finished tournament play with matching 1-1-1 records, both with losses to Service and victories over Kenai before tying 3-3 in Saturday’s final game of the End of the Road tournament.
Friday Results
Homer 7 – Kenai 5
The Kardinals and Mariners played the closest, most competitive game of the tournament on Friday night; Homer scoring a pair of late goals for a 7-5 victory over Kenai.
Homer’s Ethan Pitzman scored six goals and added an assist on the Mariner’s other goal, dominating play with goals in all three periods. The Kardinals recorded five goals by five different players with Wyatt Harvey, Miles Marsten, Nate Beiser, Zach Burnett and Jacob Begich all scoring single goals. Kenai tied the game nine minutes into the final period at 5-5: Homer answered with two goals by Pitzman in the final five minutes.
