Anchorage vs Peninsula Hockey Weekend Opens With A Pair Of Big City Wins

The Kenai Kardinal hockey team fell victim to the strength of one of Anchorage’s top high school hockey programs falling 13-0 to the South Anchorage Wolverines on Thursday at the Kenai Multipurpose Facility.

 

In non-conference action, the South Wolverines improved to 8-0 on the season and Kenai is still looking for its first victory of the season.

 

South 13 – Kenai 0

The Wolverines recorded goals by eight different players, including a three-goal, hat trick by Josh Costello and a four-goal, hat trick by Ryan Bailey.  The Kardinals managed only seven shots on goal for the entire game; while South fired 74 shots on Kardinal goalie Carson Koppes.

 

Homer 0 – Eagle River 8

The Mariners were held scoreless in an 8-0 defeat at the hands of the Eagle River Wolves.  The Wolves out shot the Mariners 50-20.

 

Hockey Schedule

The Anchorage vs Peninsula weekend continues on Friday with the Soldotna Stars hosting Eagle River at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex at 7 p.m.  South travels to Homer to face the Mariners.

On Saturday, Kenai will battle Eagle River in a 2 p.m. game on the Kenai ice; Soldotna pairs against South at 5 p.m. at the SRSC.
