Peninsula Oilers Baseball Opener Set For June 6th: Former Oiler Makes MLB Debut

Opening Day for the Alaska Baseball League and opening day for the Peninsula Oilers in scheduled for June 6th.

 

The Oilers open on the road for the 2019 baseball season with a five-game swing through Anchorage and Chugiak-Eagle River, beginning with a two-game series against the Anchorage Bucs at Mulcahy Park starting on Wednesday, June 6th.

 

The Oilers home opener is scheduled for Wednesday, June 12th with a six-game in five day series against the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks.

Garrett Stubbs Makes Astros & MLB Debut

Garrett Stubbs, a member of the 2012 Peninsula Oilers, received the call-up to the Houston Astros from AAA Round Rock on Sunday and made his major league debut on Tuesday for the Astros against the Chicago Cubs.

Starting at catcher, Stubbs batted ninth in his first game in the big leagues, went 2-for-4 with a double, run scored and an RBI .  Defensively, Stubbs caught five different pitchers in the Astros’ 9-6 victory over the Cubs at Minute Maid Park.

Before his call-up, Stubbs was hitting .250 with four doubles, four homers, seven RBIs and a .810 OPS for Triple-A Round Rock.

As a Peninsula Oiler in 2012, Garrett Stubbs hit .245 with four doubles, one home run and five RBI.
