The Peninsula Oilers, celebrating their 45th season as members of the Alaska Baseball League, return to Coral Seymour Memorial Park on Wednesday for their 2019 Alaska Baseball League home opener at 7 p.m. against the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks.
The game is sponsored by KSRM Radio Group and Coca-Cola with free admission to the game and free coke products for fans in attendance.
Soldotna High School graduate Joey Becher is scheduled to pitch opening night at Coral Seymour Memorial Park on Wednesday. Becher is back for his second season with the Oilers (2017) and has one start under his belt pitching three innings and allowing one run.
The Oilers home stand consists of six games in five days at Oilers Park against the Chinooks.
Opening road trip
The Oilers finished their opening five-game road trip to begin the 2019 season at 2-3 with wins against the Anchorage Bucs (9-6) at Mulcahy and a victory on Monday against the Chinooks (11-4) in Chugiak.

Oilers utility man Drew Thorpe is second in ABL batting average (.462) through the first week of Alaska Baseball League action.
The Oilers lead the ABL in cumulative team batting average (.274).
Oilers outfielder Camden Vasquez carries a five-game hitting streak into the home series, with hits in all five Oilers games this season.
