Alaska Relay Features Record Number Of Teams & New Event Record Time

The 3rd Annual Alaska Relay, a 188-mile relay race from Mirror Lake to Seward, featured 28 teams in four divisions completing the course on Saturday, June 15th in downtown Seward after a grueling relay run from Chugiak on the Glenn Highway, the Chester Creek and Coastal trails in Anchorage and the Seward Highway to Seward.

 

The Hot Mess Express finished in a new course and event record time of 21 hours, 28 minutes, breaking the record of 23:19 set in 2017.  Team members were: Kristyn Turney,  Kassandra Burke, Robert Cassidy, Mallory Karp, Ethan Kazmierczak, Whitney Kazmierczak, Kaleb Korta, Jesse Miller, Michel Ramirez, Brenden Turney, Davin Turney and Taylor Turney.

 

Local team Navigationally Challenged finished fourth overall with a time of 24 hours, 34 minutes competing in the Mixed Open Division.  Tema members included: Rustin Hitchcock, Becca Hitchcock, Sean Goff, Kailey Mucha, Addison Gibson, Alex Bergholtz, Mike Bergholtz, Dan Serventi, Erin Carpenter, Cynthia Fudzinski, Patrick Metzger and Lee Frey.
