The Mat-Su Miners capped off a wild series against the Peninsula Oilers with an 11-5 win on Friday at Hermon Brothers Field. The win for the Miners (10-5) completes the four-game sweep of the Oilers (5-10) .
Miners 11- Oilers 5
The Miners pounced on Oilers pitching in the first inning for five runs against Oilers starter Brian Merken. Merken allowed one hit but walked four batters in 0.2 IP.
The Oilers responded with a couple runs in the second on a Damon Keith two-run single, cutting the Miners lead to 5-2.
Keith went 2-4 at the plate with four RBIs.
The Miners totaled six runs in the fourth against Oilers relievers Kyle Muller and Steven Ordorica, putting the Miners up 11-2.
The Oilers scored two in the sixth (Keith two-run triple), and one in the seventh on a double-play groundout scoring Connor McCord, who was 3 for 4 for the game.
Oilers Roadtrip continues on Saturday against Chinooks
The Oilers take on the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks in game one of a three-game series on Saturday at 7 p.m.
The series runs through Monday, with the final game of the Oilers eight-game road trip scheduled for Tuesday against the Anchorage Bucs at Mulcahy Stadium.
