Timely hitting and stellar pitching fueled the Peninsula Oilers (7-10) to a 5-2 win against the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks (5-11) at Lee Jordan Field on Sunday. A 12-hit effort at the plate and a combined four-hitter by the Oilers pitching staff leads to their first series win of the season.

A phenomenal performance at the plate by Ethan Patrick and a stellar outing by Eric Reardon highlighted the Oilers win.

Oilers 5- Chinooks 2

The Chinooks opened the scoring on an unearned run against Oilers starter Eric Reardon in the second inning.  A single with an error on Oilers left fielder Camden Vasquez allowed Mason Corbett to reach second base and later score on an Trevor Cho RBI single.

The Oilers tallied their first run in the fourth inning on a fielding error by Chinooks second baseman Paddy McKermitt, allowing Skyler Messinger to score to even the game 1-1.

The Chinooks retook the lead in the bottom of the inning when Reardon threw a wild pitch with a runner on third base, putting Chugiak up 2-1.

Then Reardon shut down the Chinooks.

The Rutgers left-hander retired Chugiak in order in the fifth and sixth innings in his longest outing of the season (6 IP).

The Oilers gave Reardon run support on a two-run double by Ethan Patrick, who finished the game 4 for 5 (two 2B) in the first four-hit game of the season for the Oilers. The Oilers led 3-2 after seven innings.

The Oilers added a run in the eighth on a Connor McCord RBI single and a Travis Bohall RBI single in the ninth put the Oilers up 5-2.

McCord retired the Chinooks in order in the bottom of the ninth to secure his second save of the season and the win for the Oilers, 5-2.

The win for the Oilers secures the season series edge against the Chinooks (6-3) in an 11-game schedule against Chugiak in the 2019 Alaska Baseball League season.
