In 2018, the Alaska Legion State Tournament was marred before the tournament began with three teams deemed ineligible for the state competition. Wasilla, Ketchikan and Palmer all failed to meet the May 31 deadline to provide proof of insurance as required by both the state and national American Legion offices. As a result, Kodiak (7-11) was awarded the #8 seed with a below .500 record. Juneau won the 2018 Alaska Legion State Championship and advanced to win a game at the Northwest Regional.
