The Soldotna girls and boys basketball teams opened play at the Nome/Beltz Subway Showdown basketball tournament with a pair of victories in first-round action against the Kotzebue Huskies on Thursday in Nome.
SoHi Girls 68- Kotzebue 25
The Soldotna girls lead 20-10 after one quarter and 32-22 at the half en route to a 68-25 win over Kotzebue. The Stars defense held the Huskies to three points in the second half. Morgan Bouschor lead SoHi with 19 points.
SoHi Boys 62 – Kotzebue 20
The star boys overwhelmed Kotzebue 62-20 in opening round action with the Stars building a 37-14 lead at the half and the defense holding the Huskies to single-digit scoring in every quarter. Ray Chumley lead SoHi with 14 points.
