Railbelt Hockey Standings Tighten with Kardinal Wins In Juneau

Kenai and Soldotna hockey teams enter the final week of the regular season with Railbelt Conference rankings on the line, following a pair of conference victories for Kenai in Juneau and a pair of conference victories for SoHi in the Valley.

 

Kenai 2 – Juneau 0

The Kenai Kardinals completed a two-game sweep of the Juneau Crimson Bears on Saturday night with a 2-0 victory.  Kenai scored a Cooper Stock goal in the second period for a 1-0 lead and added a Landen Cialek goal in the third period.  Tommy Baker recorded 18 saves in goal for Kenai.  The Kardinals peppered Juneau with 56 shots.

 

Upcoming Schedule

Kenai faces-off against Soldotna on Tuesday at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex in the Kardinals’ final Railbelt contest.  Kenai closes the regular season with games against Aurora Conference Tri-Valley on Friday and Saturday in Kenai.

SoHi hosts Kenai, then travels to Juneau for two Railbelt Conference games to close the Stars regular season.

 

Based on the unofficial standings, the Kardinals hold a one point lead over Palmer for the 3rd place in the Railbelt, with Palmer having completed conference play.  Soldotna, with three remaining games can pass Homer for the #1 Railbelt seed with a sweep of Kenai and Juneau.

(official team records must be submit by school on Sunday, February 2nd-brackets will be available Monday, February 3rd).

Division II State Hockey Information

The seeding for the ASAA Division II State Hockey Championships is determined by regular season, conference records ( no conference tournaments for Division II).

Berths to Division II State Hockey:
Aurora Conference – 3
Railbelt Conference – 3
At-Large – 2

The two at-large berths will be selected based on at-large criteria.
