Hockey State Seeding Secured On Saturday: Stars Earn #1 Railbelt Spot

The SoHi Stars and Kenai Kardnals hockey teams wrapped-up the regular season by completing weekend sweeps and securing each’s position for the upcoming Division II State Hockey championships.

 

SoHi Earns #1 Seed To State

The SoHi hockey team completed a two-game sweep of Juneau on Saturday with a 7-0 victory over the Crimson Bears.

The Stars post a 9-1 Railbelt Conference regular season record and surpass the Homer Mariners (8-1-1) for the top seed from the Railbelt to the 2020 Division II Hockey State Championships.

SoHi 7 – Juneau 0  Saturday

The Stars shut-out Juneau with a solid effort in goal by Corbin Wirz with 18 saves and a rare goalie assist.  SoHi goals were recorded by Silas Larsen (2), Galen Brantley III, Journey Miller, Gavin Haakenson, Brier Books and Trent Powell.

 

Kenai Completes Sweep Of Tri-Valley

The Kardinals, having already locked-in the #3 seed from the Railbelt Conference, completed a two-game sweep of Aurora Conference Tri-Valley on Saturday with an 8-1 win over the Vikings.

Kardinal goals were scored by: Jordan Knudsen (2), Landen Cialek, Blane Bucho, Travis Verkuilen, Nate Beiser, Reagan Graves and Nick Wehrstein.
