The deadline to apply to Alaska Sea Grant for their fellowship program is Friday, February 14.
The state fellowship program provides a unique professional opportunity for graduate students interested in marine resources and policy decision-making in Alaska. The program is a paid twelve-month fellowship that provides on-the-job experience in Alaska. Modeled after the highly successful Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship, highly motivated graduate students are matched with host state or federal agencies in Alaska. Graduate students close to completing a degree, or with a recently earned degree, are eligible.
The Alaska Sea Grant State Fellowship Program strengthens the workforce dedicated to healthy fisheries and coastal environments by encouraging graduate students to launch careers in Alaska.
To apply, candidates must be ready to submit the following:
- Personal and academic curriculum vitae (not to exceed two pages using 12 pt font).
- A personal education and career goal statement that emphasizes the applicant’s abilities and expectations for the fellowship experience in the way of career development (1000 words or less).
- Two letters of recommendation, including one from the student’s major professor. If no major professor exists, a letter from the faculty member who is most familiar with the applicant’s academic work may be substituted.
- Copies of all undergraduate and graduate student transcripts. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable.
Some of the opportunities available with the fellowship include placements with NOAA Alaska Fisheries Science Center, NOAA Fisheries Alaska Region, the National park Service, North Pacific Fishery Management Council, as well as the United States Geological Survey.
