Peninsula Conference Basketball Championship Games Set For Friday Night @ CIA

The 2020 Peninsula Conference Basketball Championships, which will determine conference champions and state qualifiers to the ASAA 1A State Basketball Championships, moves to Championship Friday following winner’s bracket games on Thursday at Cook Inlet Academy.

 

The Peninsula Conference tournament features a double-elimination format in both the girls and boys bracket with the tournament’s championship games scheduled for Friday night (March 6th) and the runner-up games, which will determine the second, state qualifier on Saturday afternoon (March 7th).

Peninsula Conference Girls Bracket: Thursday Game Results

CIA Girls 39 – Birchwood 33

The Eagle girls, seed #3, knocked-off #2 seed Birchwood 39-33 to advance the Eagles to the championship game on Friday night.  Anna Henderson lead CIA with 17 points.

Nikolaevsk Girls 60 -Lumen Christi 23

The #1 Nikolaevsk girls rolled over Lumen 60-23 lead by Elizabeth Fefelov with 18 points.

Ninilchik boys 57 – Nikolaevsk 54

The #2 seed Ninilchik boys held-off #3 Nikolaevsk 57-54 to advance the Wolverines to the boys championship game on Friday night and move the Warriors to the consolation round. Ben Botero lead Ninilchik with 20 points.

Lumen boys 61 – Birchwood 44

The tournament’s top seed Lumen Christi overpowered Birchwood 61-44 to advance to Friday’s boys championship game.

CIA girls 46 – Kodiak ESS 27

The Eagle girls finally played their first-round pairing against Kodiak ESSS on Thursday after Kodiak was unable to make Wednesday’s game on time due to travel delays.  Tatum Rozak lead CIA with 17 points in CIA’s 46-27 victory.

Lumen Girls 27 – Ninilchik Girls 18

#5 Lumen downs #4 Ninilchik in tournament’s first upset.

Cook Inlet Academy (6-4) – Kodiak ESSS (0-10)  Rescheduled to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The Nikolaevsk girls earn the #1 seed with a 10-0 record and receive a bye into Thursday’s round.  Birchwood Academy (7-3) also receives a first-round bye with the #2 seed.

 

Peninsula Conference Boys Bracket: Opening Round (Wednesday)

Birchwood Academy Boys 51 – Cook Inlet Academy Boys 43  

Cook Inlet battles from 36-17 deficit at halftime to draw to within a basket in the final three minutes; however, Birchwood holds-off the Eagles 51-43.

Nikolaevsk Boys 75 – Nanwalek 40

Justin Trail lead the Warriors with 26 points in a 75-40 win over Nanwalek.
