Veteran Iditarod musher Jim Lanier of Chugiak, Alaska, scratched at 7:27 p.m. last night at the Rainy Pass checkpoint. Lanier made the decision to scratch due to concern for his own well-being. Lanier had 14 dogs in harness at the time he made the decision to scratch.
