Peninsula Sports Profiles Senior Athletes: Jersey Truesdell, SoHi

Peninsula Sports spotlights senior athletes from the central peninsula’s three public high schools recognizing outstanding student athletes for their individual accomplishments and contributions to their schools extra-curricular programs.

 

Representing Soldotna High School…

Jersey Truesdell

The SoHi senior has earned state-wide, all-state recognition in both football and basketball through his four-year career at Soldotna High School.

Football

As a four-year starter on the SoHi football team, Jersey (and the Stars) amassed 39 wins in 40 games and won four-straight, medium school football championships.

In 2016, with Jersey at quarterback for the state championship game in his first start in his freshman season, SoHi defeated Palmer and Jersey threw his first state championship game touchdown.

In 2019, the senior quarterback rushed for two touchdowns and threw three touchdown passes in SoHi’s eight-straight state championship.

For his senior football campaign, Jersey amassed 16 touchdowns with no interceptions and rushed for nearly 350 yards and eight touchdowns.

Jersey was named on the football All-State 1st Team for three seasons:

2017  1st Team Defensive Back

2018   Offensive Player of the Year for Division II football.  1st Team QB and Defensive Back

2019  Offensive Player of the Year for Division II football.  1st Team QB and Defensive Back, kicker

 

Basketball

A four-year varsity player for SoHi basketball, Jersey was named team MVP his sophomore and junior year and looks to repeat following an all-state senior season.

Jersey earned 2018 NLC All-Conference  2nd Team selection and 2019 & 2020 NLC All-Conference 1st team selection.  Jersey was named 2nd Team All-State in 2019 and awaits the naming if the 2020 All-State Team.

Jersey scored 1189 points, including 209 three-pointers and recorded 259 assists in his career at SoHi.

 

The Alaska Sports Hall of Fame honored Jersey as the Youth Pride of Alaska Award recipient for 2019.

 

Jersey Truesdell recently signed a national Letter of Intent to the University of Alaska, Fairbanks to play basketball for the Nanooks and study in the field of electrical engineering.
