Kenai Little League Forms Challenger Baseball Division

Author: Coach Dan Gensel |

Kenai Little League is initiating a new Challenger Baseball Division for the 2020 season.

Challenger baseball is for special needs players ages 4-18.

With the Challenger Division, Kenai Little League is able to adapt the game to accommodate a player’s needs, utilizing buddy players and increased field accessibility to make baseball possible for every member of our community.  The 2020 season is scheduled to kick off on May 16 and run through June 27.

The cost for participation in the Challenger division is $25.  With enough interest and participation, KLL will be able to add a division for adult players as well.  To register or get more information about this or any of our other baseball and softball programs, please visit KenaiLittleLeague.org.

If you are interested in participating in Challenger Baseball this year as a player, buddy player, coach or other volunteer, please contact Chrissy Smith at 690-2237.

Little League International has suspended all baseball activities until May 11.

Area Little League Programs On Hold, But Hopeful

Kenai Little League and Soldotna Little League have cancelled all spring clinics coinciding with mandates due to COVID-19 and with the closure of area schools.

Both Little Leagues baseball and softball organizations are planning on having a 2020 Little League baseball season.  Both are also encouraging families to register now so that the season can begin with minimal disruption.

Area programs are continuing registration through their respective websites.

In a release from Little League Baseball International…

“As information continues to become available regarding the increasing spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), we wanted to provide you, our leagues and district administrators, with additional guidance on the implementation of the Little League® program in your local communities.

Little League International operates more than 6,500 programs in more than 84 countries, and therefore, we recommend that our leagues exercise an abundance of caution and implement a temporary suspension/delay of all league activities until no earlier than May 11.”
