ASAA Recommends Coaches Complete Online Classes During Break In Activities

Author: Coach Dan Gensel |

The Alaska School Activities Association (ASAA) is recommending coaches from throughout Alaska use resources available through the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS) during the stoppage of athletics due to Covid-19 to update certification and refresh knowledge on coaching techniques through online Fundamentals of Coaching and First Aid, Health and Safety for Coaches classes.

The NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching course provides a unique student-centered curriculum for interscholastic teacher/coaches, assisting them in creating a healthy and age-appropriate athletic experience that supports the educational mission of our nation’s schools.

NFHS Core Courses

Fundamentals of Coaching and First Aid, Health and Safety for Coaches provide coaches with content from all eight domains contained in the National Standards for Sport Coaches (NASPE 2006). These two courses form the foundation from which all elective courses and sport-specific courses are developed. Core courses should be completed first to give the coach a better understanding of elective and sport-specific courses.

Online courses are available for coaches at all levels and all sports disciplines.

Check out the classes available at the NFHS Learning Center at www.nfhslearn.com/courses

Note: Classes are not only for high school coaches.  Classes are beneficial for anyone coaching young athletes, ie: little league baseball, age-group soccer, boys & girls club sports, etc.
