Athletic programs for the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District have been shut-down for the 2019-20 school year–school has been shut-down for the remainder of the school year–and that includes the outdoor facilities at the KPBSD schools.
It is hard to shut-down playing fields at our area schools, with soccer field, football fields, tracks and other athletic venues accessible to the public. These facilities should be open to provide recreational opportunities for the public. In return, the public has a responsibility to maintain the venues and follow posted guidelines.
Area schools with artificial surface football fields and synthetic tracks have specific usage guidelines which will help insure the longevity of the facilities.
Basic Guidelines For Facility Use
- No Food or Drink within the fenced area around track and football fields; Water is allowed, no gum, seeds, or food on the field.
- No Pets
- No wheeled vehicles: including strollers, bikes, rollerblades, skateboards, etc. Wheels can create grooves and cuts in the synthetic surface and damage the surface.
With the closure of schools and with summer approaching, Users are reminded to clean areas and assist in trash pick-up. If you bring it in; take it out!
