Area Little League Programs Postpone Seasons: Fall Ball Plan Being Developed

Author: Coach Dan Gensel |

Little League Baseball programs in the Kenai and Soldotna area have cancelled the 2020 summer baseball seasons due to the impact of COVID-19; both programs deciding to concentrate their efforts on developing a fall season as a replacement to the traditional May through July calendar.

Kenai Little League

The Kenai Little League announced on May 16th the cancellation of the Little League season.

According to the Kenai Little League Facebook post…

Your KLL board has met and discussed the 2020 season at length. Given the current mandates, restrictions and registration numbers, we will be unable to hold a season for spring/summer 2020. Instead, we will be focusing our energy into a fall season, and will be planning accordingly. If you are registered on the wait list, there is nothing you need to do now. If you have already paid for your registration, we are offering three options:

1. You may receive a refund of your registration fees (not including any credit card or service charges)

2. You may elect to roll your registration fee over to fall ball 2020

3. You may elect to roll your registration fee over to spring/summer 2021

Please let us know by June 1 how you would like us to handle your 2020 payment. If we have not heard from you by June 1, we will treat your payment as a credit towards either the 2020 fall ball or 2021 spring season.

Soldotna Little League

The Soldotna Little League announced on May 26th the cancellation of the Little League season.

According to the Soldotna Little League Facebook post…

Soldotna Little League board members met earlier this week on 5/26. After much discussion and ongoing review of remaining/active COVID-19 restrictions and mandates for organizations (like SLL), the difficult decision was reached to cancel the 2020 Spring/Summer season. Instead, SLL will plan to focus on offering a FALL BALL PROGRAM, noting the following details:

1. All Spring/Summer fees already received by SLL will be fully refunded (less any credit card or other bank fees outside of SLL’s control)

2. REGISTRATION FOR FALL BALL WILL OPEN JULY 1ST WITH A TARGET FALL BALL PROGRAM START DATE OF AUGUST 1ST. Registration WILL NOT require payment up-front, so PLEASE REGISTER, even if not 100% sure yet. This will help give a better idea of participation so that a program can be realistically designed.

3. Once Fall Ball program details are finalized, those who have registered will be notified of fee details so that members can decide whether to remain registered. It is anticipated that registration fees will be reduced compared to Spring/Summer season fees.

4. Note that SLL Board will continue to monitor COVID-19 related developments as they relate to Soldotna Little League’s requirements and ability to offer Fall Ball program.

Three Additional Notes:

1. Soldotna Little League’s next board meeting is scheduled for MONDAY, JUNE 15th @ 6:30 p.m. at the Soldotna Little League office (in 4D building on corner of Spur and Marydale). As always, members are welcome and encouraged to attend.

2. SLL is planning to hold a membership information meeting in early July to provide additional Fall Ball updates and to hear questions/concerns/comments from membership.

3. More so than ever, the success of Soldotna Little League (and anticipated Fall Ball in particular) will be rely on volunteers. Those willing to help with any range of volunteer opportunities, including field maintenance, are encouraged to call or email Board President, Ken Gibson @ 907-398-3874 or [email protected].
