The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reported 15 new positive COVID-19 cases and one death in their Friday update, including five in the Kenai Peninsula Borough. Four cases are out of Homer and one is out of Fritz Creek.
The death reported Friday was another patient of the Providence Transitional Care Center (PTCC). This is the second death associated with the PTCC since the outbreak began at the facility on May 29. This brings the total number of deaths due to COVID-19 in Alaska to 12.
The number of active cases of COVID-19 in the Kenai Peninsula is 67. The number of active cases in the state of Alaska is now 210. That is the highest recorded count of active COVID-19 cases to date in Alaska. Yesterday marked the highest total since the pandemic began, and today topped that total as active cases continue to rise in Alaska.
A total of 70,880 tests have been administered in Alaska thus far, which includes 4,070 in the Kenai Peninsula.
These cases are reported using the state’s timetable of reporting counts: 12:00 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. on June 11.
