Twins Drop Pair In Sunday Alliance Baseball Doubleheader

Sunday road doubleheaders are the norm for the Alaska 20 Twins in the early non-league play portion of the summer Alliance Baseball season, and the Twins returned to Anchorage and dropped a pair of games to close-out the first week of baseball in Alaska.

 

The Alaska 20 Twins (formerly the Post 20 Twins) playing in the Alliance Baseball League with a modified baseball schedule for the summer of 2020 is made up of players from throughout the Kenai Peninsula.

 

Alaska 20 Twins 2 – South 5

The Twins held South to a lone run through four innings in a 5-2 loss to South Anchorage in game one of Sunday’s doubleheader at Bartlett High School.

Trailing 1-0 in the top of the fifth inning, the Twins plated their first run on an RBI ground ball by Harrison Metz scoring Charles Tappen who opened the inning with a single.  The Twins allowed three runs in the bottom of the fifth and a lone run in the sixth.  The Twins scored a single run in the top of the seventh, scoring Harrison Metz, who reached on an error and advanced home on an error.

Mose Hayes threw three innings and allowed one earned run: Harrison Metz pitch three innings, allowing four runs with only one run earned.

Final Score: Twins 2, South 5

 

Alaska 20 Twins 3 – East 5

Alaska 20 scored two runs in the first inning of a 5-3 loss to East in game two of Sunday’s doubleheader.  East tied the game at 2-2 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third.  The Twins regained the lead in the fourth with a single run.  East closed the scoring with a three-run, sixth inning.  Mose Hayes lead the Twin offense with a 3 for 4 day at the plate, including two RBI and a run scored.  Sam Berry recorded two hits in three at bats and an RBI.  On the mound, Davey Belger threw four innings and allowed two, unearned runs while striking out six batters.  Nick Wehrstein tossed two innings and allowed three earned runs in four hits.

Final Score: Twins 3, East 5.

Live Baseball Returns To ESPN 1140AM

ESPN 1140 AM opens the summer baseball broadcast season with coverage of the Alaska 20 Twins doubleheader on June 20th.  Games will be broadcast on 1140AM and streamed live at www.radiokenai.com.  Game times are set for 1:30 and 4 p.m.

A complete broadcast schedule will be available when the league schedule is released by Alliance Baseball.  Coverage of the Twins will include select road and home games and state tournament games in July.
