Across their combined Saturday and Sunday counts, the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reported 48 positive COVID-19 cases among residents. That includes one case in Soldotna, three in Seward, and one in Kenai.

There were also 25 cases in Anchorage, three in Fairbanks, two in Seward, four in Wasilla, two in Delta Junction, one in Big Lake, one in Bethel, two in Juneau, one in North Pole, one in Valdez, one in the Yukon Census Area, and two in Willow. That brings the total resident COVID-19 count to 883.

As of the current count, there are 348 active cases of COVID-19 in Alaska. As the numbers continue to rise, this marks another new single day high of active cases. Sunday marks the twelfth consecutive report that has set a new single-day high.

There were also 12 new nonresident cases, including five seafood industry workers in the state.

There are 12 patients currently hospitalized in the state with COVID-19, or are suspected of having it.

Dr. Anne Zink, Alaska’s Chief Medical Officer: “We are definitely seeing a sharp increase in cases in Alaska, and just like in other states, many of the recent new cases are in youth or younger adults. Some of these cases are linked to bars in several communities. Going to a bar right now, especially to listen to a concert, should be viewed as a high risk activity. The virus can spread easily in crowded indoor spaces, especially when people are close together and singing or talking. Please take precautions and if you do go, consider not interacting with anyone who is at high risk for serious illness such as older Alaskans or those with underlying health conditions.”
