The Kenai Senior Center has received $32,500 in a second-round of COVID-19 response grants from Meals On Wheels America, in support of the services provided to Meals On Wheels recipients through this pandemic.
Meals on Wheels America launched its COVID-19 Response Fund and the corresponding grant program provides “stop-gap” emergency grants to members working to secure additional food and supplies and adapt to new procedures and delivery methods, all while experiencing a rapid increase in demand for services.
The Kenai Senior Center received their first-round Meals On Wheels grant in May for $25,000. They have been providing additional home meals through the COVID-19 pandemic and has increased costs for food and supplies.
The ordinance to appropriate the second-round of grant funds will be introduced by the Kenai City Council at their meeting on Wednesday. The ordinance would allow for City Manager Paul Ostrander to accept the grant from the Meals on Wheels for Kenai Senior Center expenditures.
Meals on Wheels operates all year-round to provide nutritious meals, friendly visits, and safety checks to seniors in Kenai Peninsula communities.
The Kenai City Council meeting will be at 6:00 p.m. and they recommend that residents participate virtually. Written testimony is encouraged.
