Kenai Volleyball Downs Nikiski: Bulldogs Face Stars Friday At SoHi

The opening match between Central Peninsula schools in the modified, re-scheduled high school volleyball season goes to Kenai Central.  Nikiski travels to SoHi to face the Stars on Friday.

 

Kenai 3 – Nikiski 0

The Kenai Kardinals produced a three-game sweep of the Bulldogs on Thursday at Nikiski, downing the Bulldogs 25 -19, 25-15 and 25-13 in the first contest involving Central Peninsula teams.  Kenai’s Bethany Morris recorded 13 kills and 13 digs and Abby Every added 15 digs, eight kills and five aces for the Kardinals.  Lillian Carstens and Savannah Ley had five kills each for the Bulldogs.

 

The Central Peninsula currently stands in the Medium “Yellow” Risk Level which allows for competition, under mitigation plans and protocols.  Soldotna High, Kenai Central and Nikiski High all fall under the Medium Risk Level designation.

Game Protocols

Max capacity for spectators is 104 (this number includes reserved seating)

…SoHi players will have a family guest list for reserved seats – exact number will be provided later today (2-3 family members per athlete).  Family members will be asked to exit the gym after their child/sibling is done playing to create room for spectators wanting to watch the next level of competition

Nikiski will be granted 24 reserved seats for the varsity game.  Their section will be located directly behind the Nikiski bench.  Nikiski athletes who are not currently playing will be asked to watch the current match from the mobile bleachers in the upper gym, there are two sections – players must sit in their practice pods.

…SoHi athletes who are not currently playing must sit with their family group or in their designated section (located directly behind the SoHi bench).

The gym will be cleared after the JV match

Once the max capacity number has been reached, all outside doors will be locked.  They will be reopened 30 minutes prior to the next level of competition

Spectators will enter the building through the main parking lot doors (all other entrances will be locked.   Spectators will exit the building through the flagpole doors (in order decrease cross traffic).

The pool doors will be closed to spectators – this door should only be used by SoHi athletes.

Screening

Before being allowed entrance to the gym,  athletes will be screened by a coach (athletes should arrive at a designated time).  The visiting team will access the building through the back doors located by the shop (please contact the AD before arrival to ensure the door is opened).

This will provide easy access to the gym, upper gym and the visiting team’s bench area

Locker rooms will be locked and not accessible during the event

General public restrooms are located directly outside the gym in the Commons

There will be no concessions or sale of baked goods for this event

 

ASAA Volleyball (Indoor Sports) Return to Play Protocols

Indoor events– total individuals should be what your facility can handle with social distancing of at least 6 feet.

Maintain a minimum of 20 minutes between the end of an event and the beginning of a subsequent event.  High risk participants, spectators and those that have been sick should stay at home.

Use digital ticketing only

To decrease the amount of yelling and cheering, host school approved artificial noisemakers may be used as long as they do not interfere with official whistles.

Prior to attending advisors, coaches, supervisors & participants must sign a waiver of liability related to COVID-19

Screen advisors, coaches, supervisors, participants and officials prior to each session. Includes a temperature check, questions and phone number/email. Information should be recorded and stored to help facilitate contact tracing of a confirmed exposure.

Screen spectators prior to each indoor session. Includes a temperature check, questions and phone number/email.  Information should be recorded and stored to help facilitate contact tracing of a confirmed exposure.  Anyone with a temperature of greater than 100.3 degrees  or with positive symptoms reported should not be allowed to participate, should self-isolate, and contact their primary care provider or other health-care professional.

Designated individual on site responsible for monitoring and following all screening, cleaning and social distancing protocols.
