Despite COVID-19 interrupting many traditional events this year, the Kenai Chamber of Commerce is still hosting the 2020 Kenai River Marathon Run Series on Sunday, September 27. Registration is ongoing online and at the Kenai Visitor Center.
Proceeds generated from the Kenai River Marathon will go to the Kenai Community Foundation to support the development of parks and recreation in and around Kenai. The Kenai River Marathon is hosted by the Kenai Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center in partnership with the City of Kenai, as well as many community volunteers.
Brittany Brown of the Kenai Chamber of Commerce spoke with KSRM this week about the city’s excitement: “We’ve got a big group of folks coming in, close to 180 people have already signed up and we’re still getting calls for folks still wanting to participate. So, we’re so thankful that people are coming out, wanting to join us for the event. Registration does close this Saturday on the 26th, so we encourage anybody who still wants to participate to register soon. They can go online at KenaiRiverMarathon.com or they can give us a call at the Kenai Visitor Center to do so. We’re excited to see that the sun’s going to be coming out and that people will be able to really enjoy the race with that sun!”
Bib pick-up for participants will be at the Kenai Visitor and Cultural Center on Friday, September 25th from 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., then again on Saturday, September 26 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
On Sunday, the Full, Relay, and Half Marathon start time will be at 9:00 a.m. from the Kenai Visitor and Cultural Center. The 5K Fun Run start time is at 10:15 a.m.
More information can be found at KenaiRiverMarathon.org. There is no race day registration. Also, due to road construction and the new course, the 2020 Kenai River Marathon will not be a Boston Marathon Qualifier.
