Region III Running Championships Split Into Multiple Venues

The 2020 Region III Cross Country Running Championships will, because of COVID-19 modifications, mandates and protocols, split into three separate events to determine state qualifiers for the ASAA state championships.

 

The Region III South cross country meet will be held on the Tsalteshi Trails at Skyview Middle School on Saturday, October 3rd with competition in Division I and Division II classifications.

 

Region III South-Division I & Division II Championships

Tsalteshi Trails  Saturday, October 3rd

Race Schedule:
11:00 am—–Head coaches meeting in Skyview Library and walk the course
12:00 pm——Varsity girls race (both Division I and II)
12:45 pm——Varsity boys race (both Division I and II)

 

Region III-Division I South: Soldotna High School, Kodiak

The Soldotna Stars and Kodiak Bears make-up the South Division, and with Kodiak on an island-wide lockdown for athletic teams, Soldotna will run alone in the Division I races (girls and boys) and Kodiak will run at a site in Kodiak.

Region III-Division I North: Colony, Palmer and Wasilla

The Colony Knights, Palmer Moose and Wasilla Warriors will compete in the Division I North competition in the Valley.

Region III State Qualifiers: Division I

SoHi and Kodiak will each receive two state berths.

The top 6 finishers in the Northern race will qualify for the state meet (overall 10 Division I boys and
10 Division I girls will qualify).  In the event that Kodiak is unable to attend the state meet, alternates from both the Southern and Northern divisions will be considered.  Times for runners finishing in 3, 4, and 5 place in the Southern division will be considered- times for runners finishing in 7, 8, 9, and 10 place in the Northern division will be considered.

 

Region III-Division II South: Kenai, Homer, Nikiski and Seward

Four Peninsula teams form the Northern Division of Region III-Division II cross country running.  All teams will run in the combined Di-DII, girls and boys, races on the Tsalteshi Trails.

Region III-Division II North:  Anchorage Christian, Grace Christian, Houston and Redington

The Division II North teams will have a separate competition in the Valley.

Region III State Qualifiers: Division II

The top 8 finishers in both the Southern race and Northern race will qualify for the state meet (overall 16 Division II boys and 16 Division II girls will qualify).  Times for alternates for the state meet in the Division II races will also be examined (this is in case a runner or team is unable to attend for extenuating circumstances).

 

Additional Region III Information

Due to COVID-19 mitigation procedures, athletes will not be permitted to use locker rooms before, during or after the meet.  Spectators will need to abide by established mitigation measures including wearing a face mask.  All indoor facilities will be closed to spectators.

ASAA State Cross Country Running Championships

ASAA State Cross Country Running Championships are scheduled for Saturday, October 10th at Kincaid Park in Anchorage.  Kincaid Park was selected for additional social distancing for athletes and spectators.  Restrictions to inter-district travel will have to be lifted by multiple school districts for the state meet to be located in Anchorage.
