Fighting in the preliminary card of the UFC Vegas 12 Fight Night on Halloween Night with only two weeks advance notice as a replacement opponent for promising newcomer Adrian Yanez, Rodriguez battled in the biggest bout of his career.  Rodriguez entered the match with a 7-2 overall record; Yanez fought in his first UFC match, winning his way into the UFC via Dana White’s Contender Series earlier this year.

Fight description from Kevin Iole at Yahoo Sports…

Five of the six fights on the preliminary card ended in finishes.

UFC newcomer Adrian Yanez made a mark in his bantamweight bout with Victor Rodriguez, using a sharp right hand to set up a finish. Yanez landed two rights that hurt Rodriguez and then caught him with a kick to the face that ended it in the first round.

According to MMA and UFC news source bloodyelbow.com…

Adian Yanez was one of the biggest favorites on the card and he showed why when he faced Victor Rodriguez. When Yanez got space he used it well, hurting his opponent with strikes. As soon as he started landing, he had Rodriguez in trouble and retreating. Yanez did an excellent job in setting things up with his hands and then finished with a nasty head kick to end things in the first stanza. It’s easy in the game, but the UFC commentators were very impressed with Yanez and declared the 26-year-old someone to watch in the bantamweight division.
