Kenai Peninsula Middle College School is currently accepting enrollment for January 2021’s Spring term. In the Fall 2020 term, the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District and Kenai Peninsula College launched their first offerings for the middle college program, which is a pilot program in collaboration with Soldotna’s River City Academy.
Kenai Peninsula College says that KPMCS differs from their JumpStart program. The latter offers courses to high school juniors and seniors at a discounted rate, while KPMCS students will take both high school and college credits simultaneously in a supportive cohort model. The school district pays for tuition, books, and fees for all enrolled students.
During the Fall term, 19 students enrolled in the program. Each student is enrolled in six to seven credits through the middle college program, with additional coursework offered at River City Academy. Currently, all middle college courses are online, utilizing multiple platforms. They have announced that the same policy will apply for the Spring 2021 term due to the COVID-19 public health emergency.
To inquire about applying, the program advises contacting Dawn Edwards-Smith at (907) 714-6400 or at [email protected].
