Peninsula Swimming Championships Close Competitive Season

Under strict COVID-19 mandates and protocols, peninsula swimmers competed head-to-head for a final time in the 2020 season at the Kenai Peninsula Swimming Championships held at the Homer High School Kate Kuhns Aquatic Center on Saturday.

 

Swimmers representing Homer, Kenai, Seward and SoHi competed under unusal cercumstances including masks on the deck and leaving the designated area when not swimming–gone was the usual team rallying cheers, deck-side encouragement and even the ability to watch fellow teammates compete.

 

Homer High School topped the girls team scoring and the Kenai boys outdistanced the field.  Soldotna High School placed second in the girls and boys team scoring.

 

Multiple event winners in the girls competition included:

Female swimmer of the Year Madison Story of Homer winning the 200IM, the 100 Breaststroke and Story set a Homer record in the 100 Freeestyle with an opening leg of the 400 Freestyle Relay time of 53.83 (swimmers may set records in the lead-off position of the relay).

Homer’s Adeline Berry won the 100 Butterfly and 50 Freestyle; Carly Nelson, of Homer, won the 200 Freestyle and 100 Freestyle.

 

Multiple event winners in the boys competition included:

Male swimmer of the Year Owen Rolph captured the 50 Freestyle and the 100 Butterfly, Kenai’s Koda Poulin won the 200 IM and the 500 Freestyle.
