The Nordic Ski mitigation plan for high school ski programs has been approved and allows for the start of the cross country ski season on the Kenai Peninsula.

Skiers representing all Kenai Peninsula high school ski programs may begin organized, team practices on Monday, December 14th.

The mitigation plan approved by the KPBSD was specifically submitted by SoHi Athletic Director Kyle McFall and is site specific to the Tsalteshi Trails, Soldotna High School fields and trails, and other local trail systems (wildlife refuge, beaches, and other outdoor facilities).  The plan is adaptable to all other high school practice locations.

According to the approved KPBSD mitigation plan…

This mitigation plan is intended to provide guidance for Kenai Peninsula Cross Country Ski athletes and coaches when engaging in winter contact and when planning to use KPBSD facilities during the winter season.
All participants in Winter Activities must follow the guidelines outlined by ASAA for practice and events.

This mitigation plan outlines protocols coaches must follow.

Programs will have a designated individual on site responsible for monitoring and following all social
distancing, hygiene, staffing/operations (including participant screening), and cleaning and disinfecting protocols as outlined in this mitigation plan.  The designated event monitor may be a KPBSD employee, coach, or volunteer who is familiar with the requirements under this plan.
