The Kenai City Council approved an ordinance for introduction to develop a shop-local program called “Shop Here All Year in Kenai,” though details about the program are subject to change. It will be up for public debate at the January 20 meeting of the Kenai City Council. The aim of the program will be for the city to partner with the Kenai Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center to administer the program for $115,000.
If approved, what will this program provide? The goal is to provide economic relief and stimulus to Kenai small businesses, as well as assistance to residents purchasing goods and services by incentivizing local purchases. Shoppers who spend $200 at Kenai businesses would qualify for a $100 coupon to be utilized at businesses participating in the program.
The resolution to be discussed by the council will include $100,000 to be utilized as a direct incentive to shoppers.
KSRM will provide further details as the Shop Here All Year effort makes it way through the Kenai City Council.
