Nordic Ski programs receive positive news regarding state competition and continued regular season competition at the Seward Invitational last weekend in preparation for a possible appearance at the upcoming ASAA Nordic Ski Championships.
The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District announced its support of Kenai Peninsula high school Nordic Ski teams traveling and participating in the upcoming 2021 ASAA Nordic Ski Championships, currently scheduled for February 25-27 at Kincaid Park in Anchorage.
Seward Invitational Nordic Ski Meet
Variety is the norm for the 2021 Nordic Ski season for Kenai Peninsula high schools and still another format was employed at the Seward Invitational- Divide & Conquer Meet on the Mile 12 Ski Trail.
Teams from Kenai and SoHi skied on Friday; teams from Homer and Seward skied on Saturday: results were combined to determine overall placement.
Teams of three skiers raced to earn was as many points as possible. Each skier had 30 minutes to collect points by skiing as many of the designated loops as possible. The Paradise Loop earned five points, the Luna Loop earned three points and the Sitzmark Loop earned one point.
Individually, Kenai’s Jayna Boonstra and SoHi’s Quinn Cox completed the courses for the most individual points. For the girls competition, Boonstra totaled 29 points, followed by SoHi’s Erika Arthur and Katie Delker, both with 28 points. For the boys competition, SoHi’s Quinn Cox amassed 34 points; Kenai’s Tyler Hippchen, 33 points and SoHi’s Foster Boze, 31 points.
Team totals included:
#1 SoHi– Carter Cannava, Levi Mickelson and Avery Ciufo totaled 80 points.
#2 Kenai–Jack Laker, Tyler Hippchen and Grace Morrow totaled 79 points
#3 Homer–Eryn Field, Frida Renner and Elena Badajos totaled 75 points
#4 Seward–Aloshia Cross, Belladona Proietti and John VanBuskirk totaled 73 points.
