Two Kenai Peninsula residents were arrested in the early morning hours on Sunday for a double DUI motor collision.

Alaska State Troopers report that a motor vehicle operated by 46-year-old Evgeniya Samarina of Kenai hit a motor vehicle that was driven by 41-year-old Sarah Coveyou of Soldotna around mile 18 of Kalifornisky Beach Road, located near Murwood Avenue and Kristina Way.

An investigation revealed that both drivers had been drinking at a nearby bar and that both decided to leave at the same time. Coveyou, who was a short distance ahead on the road, slowed to turn left. Samarina, who was following, failed to stop in time and hit the rear end of Coveyou’s vehicle. Neither sustained injuries.

A subsequent investigation revealed both were impaired by alcoholic beverages and shouldn’t have been operating motor vehicles.

Both were arrested for driving under the influence. Both were remanded at Wildwood Pretrial.
