The final weekend of the regular season for high school hockey opened with a 3-2 Homer Mariner victory over the Soldotna Stars on Friday night at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex on the SoHi Stars Senior Night.
Homer 3 – SoHi 2
The Homer Mariners improved to 2-4 on the season; a record that includes three, overtime losses and a season-opening one goal victory over Kenai. The Soldotna Stars drop to 2-3 with a pair of overtime wins over Homer.
The Mariners opened the scoring with only :09 seconds remaining in the first period with a Casey Otis goal. In the second period, the Stars tied the game at 1-1 with an Andrew Arthur goal at 3:43 of the period. Homer answered just :43 seconds later with a Kazden Stineff goal. The Mariners padded the lead with an early, third period goal at 1:27 for a 3-1 advantage. SoHi drew to within a goal on an Aiden Burcham power-play goal at 9:27.
In goal for the Mariners, Keagan Strong recorded 25 saves on 27 shots; Aiden See posted 27 saves on 30 shots.
The Kenai Kardinals face-off against the Soldotna Stars on Saturday, February 13th at the Kenai Multipurpose Facility to close the regular season. The game time is scheduled for noon on Saturday. The game will be broadcast on ESPN 1140AM and streamed life at radiokenai.com.
