The typical Nordic Ski season culminates with the Kenai Peninsula Borough Championships followed by the Region III Nordic Ski Championship; then the ASAA state championships.
In 2021, The Kenai Peninsula Nordic Ski Championship will extend over two Saturday’s of competition and the peninsula skiers will not travel to the Valley until the ASAA Nordic Ski State Championships February 25-27 at Government Peak in Palmer.
The first event in the Kenai Peninsula Borough meet featured freestyle skiing over a 5-kilometer course at Lookout Mountain Recreation Area in Homer. The second event, classic-style race, will be competed on the Tsalteshi Trails on Saturday, February 20th.
Kenai Peninsula Borough Ski Meet -Freestyle Event
The top performer in the girls 5K Freestyle was Jayna Boonstra from Kenai Central. Boonstra completed the course in 18:00, followed by Erika Arthur of SoHi in 19:12 and SoHi’s Katie Delker in 19:27.
The fastest time in the boys competition was turned in by Kenai’s Tyler Hippchen completing the course in 16:06. Kenai’s Jack Laker finished second in 16:20 and SoHi’ Quinn Cox finished third in 16:32.
