Kardinals Hockey Closes With 4-2 Victory Over Houston

The Kenai Kardnal hockey team closed-out their run at the ASAA Division II State Hockey Championships with a 4-2 victory over Houston on Friday morning at the Menard Arena in Waslla.

 

Kenai 4 – Houston 2

Kenai’s Daniel Sheldon controlled the opening face-off and scored the opening goal just :11 seconds into the game; then added a second goal at 3:34 of the first for a 2-0 Kenai lead over Houston.  Houston’s Efinov scored a power play goal for the Hawks to draw to 2-1 in the first period.

Jacob Begich scored Kenai’s lone goal in the second period on a 4 on 4 attack.  Kenai added a Blake Bucho goal, off a Cooper Stock shot for a 4-1 lead in the third period.  Houston closed the scoring with a 5-3 power play goal.

In goal for Kenai, Jackson Cross recorded 13 saves on 15 shots.

 

Tournament play continues for peninsula teams with SoHi and Homer playing in the winner’s, semi-final on Friday at the Menard Arena.

4:00 p.m.  SoHi vs Palmer

7:00 p.m.  Homer vs North Pole
