The 2021 ASAA/First National Bank Alaska Nordic Skiing State Championships opened three days of competition on the trails at the Government Peak Recreation Area outside of Palmer with individuals and teams from throughout the state of Alaska gathering, many for the first time outside of their respective school districts.
Thursday’s opening events featured the Boys 7.5K Interval Start Classic Technique Race followed by the Girls 5K Interval Start Classic Technique Race.
Boys 7.5K Interval Start Classic Technique Race
The top performers in the Boys 7.5K race included Chugiak’s Mikael Earnhart posting the fastest time on the course at 21:43. Quinn Cox of SoHi lead all peninsula skiers with a 20th place overall and a course time of 25:28. Kenai’s Jack Laker topped the Kardinal skiers finishing 27th overall with a time of 25:53.
Girls 5K Interval Start Classic Technique Race
The Girls 5K race saw one skier break the 17-minute mark with Service High’s Meredith Schwartz recording a time of 16:58. Kenai’s Jayne Boonstra posted the fastest time from the peninsula skiers, finishing 19th overall at 18:48. Erika Arthur recorded SoHi’s fastest time, finishing 32nd at 19:47.
