Peninsula Conference Basketball Tournament Opens Thursday @ SoHi

Author: Coach Dan Gensel |

The 2021 Peninsula Conference Basketball Tournament, which features 1A schools from the Kenai Peninsula and Anchorage, will take to the court at Soldotna High School on Thursday, March 18th and run through Saturday’s championship games.

Lumen Christi School of Anchorage is the host school with all games scheduled for SoHi.

The tournament will crown a conference champion and award a 1A state tournament berth in both the girls and boys bracket.  The Peninsula Conference, in an attempt to consolidate the 1A state tournament by ASAA, has been reduced to a single automatic berth to the state tournament and the second place teams will possibly be eligible for an at-large berth.

The Peninsula Conference tournament holds its championship games on Friday, allowing for a double-back round on Saturday to determine the 2nd Place teams.

The Peninsula Conference tournament, due to factors including decreased participation and effects of covid on schools, the Peninsula Conference will include only four girls teams and five boys teams.

Girls: Cook Inlet Academy, Lumen Christi, Ninilchik and Birchwood Academy

Boys: Cook Inlet Academy, Lumen Christi, Ninilchik, Nikolaevsk and Birchwood Academy

KSRM 920 AM will broadcast three games on Thursday, the championship games on Friday and the 2nd place games on Saturday.  All broadcast games will be streamed live and free at radiokenai.com
