Kardinal Girls & Mariner Girls Open Basketball State Tournament On Thursday

The 2021 March Madness Alaska 3A and 4A State Basketball Championships open play at four different venues on Thursday, March 25th with the Kenai Peninsula represented in the 3A division by the Kenai Kardinal girls and the Homer Mariner girls from the Southcentral Conference.  The basketball state championships run from Thursday, March 25th  through Championship Saturday, March 27th.

 

Kenai opens the 3A Girls bracket against Sitka in the 3 p.m. game at Palmer Middle School.

Homer will play #1 seed ACS in the 8:15 p.m. game at Palmer Middle School 

 

All tournament games involving Kenai and Homer will be broadcast on ESPN 1140AM and streamed free at radiokenai.com

 

Ticketing Procedures

Ticketing for the 2021 ASAA State Basketball Championship will be available only through an online vender and digital tickets only will be honored at the gate for all basketball state tournament games.

The ticketing process begins by contacting a qualifying school for access code to be entered for ticketing process.

Only 125 tickets per school per game will be available.

Digital tickets only will be accepted.  No walk-up tickets, no paper tickets, no cash.

3A Girls State Championships

Kenai Peninsula State Qualifiers in the 3A Girls: Kenai Kardinals and Homer Mariners

Kenai finished as conference runner-up at the Southcentral Conference tournament and earned an automatic berth to the 3A tournament.  Homer, as the #3 team from the Southcentral Conference tournament, was draw as the only berth through the at-large lottery.

The Sitka Wolves defeated Mt. Edgecumbe in a best 2 of 3 format Southeast tournament.  ACS is the Southcentral Conference tournament champion.

3A Girls State Qualifiers

Southcentral: ACS, Kenai, Homer

Aurora: Monroe, Valdez

Southeast: Sitka

Western: Nome, Kotzebue

 

3A Boys State Championships

Anchorage Christian School and Grace Christian earn the automatic berths from the Southcentral Conference to the 3A boys state tournament; ACS as conference tournament champion and Grace as runner-up.  First round games on Thursday will be played at Colony High School.

ACS receives the top-seed as Southcentral champion and plays Valdez at 3 p.m..  Grace faces Aurora Conference champion Monroe at 8:15 p.m.  The Rams are 20-2 (9-0 in Aurora) with both losses to 4A programs.

3A Boys State Qualifiers

Southcentral: ACS, Grace

Aurora: Monroe, Delta, Valdez

Southeast: Mt. Edgecumbe

Western: Nome, Kotzebue

 

4A Girls State Championships

CIC Qualifiers: Bartlett, East, Dimond, West

NLC Qualifiers: Colony, Palmer     Wasilla does not receive at-large berth!

Mid-Alaska: Lathrop

Southeast: Ketchikan

 

4A Boys State Championships

CIC Qualifiers: Chugiak, East, South, West

NLC Qualifiers: Colony, Wasilla,

Mid-Alaska: Lathrop

Southeast: Ketchikan

 

Tournament play begins on Thursday, March 25th with the following schools hosting first-round games.

Palmer Middle School — 3A Girls Quarterfinals

Colony High — 3A Boys Quarterfinals

Wasilla High — 4A Girls Quarterfinals

Palmer High — 4A Boys Quarterfinal
