A structure fire was reported Monday evening at Airport Equipment Rentals near the intersection of K-Beach and Ciechanski Road.
Deputy Fire Chief Daniel Grimes for Central Emergency Services spoke to KSRM, “We got called here to Airport Equipment Rentals for a shop fire. We arrived on the scene and found heavy smoke pushing from the shop out the bravo side and alpha side eves. We ended up on scene with two ladders, three engines, five tankers, a medic unit, two commands, about 25 personnel in total with assistance from a Nikiski ladder and Kenai tanker. We found the fire was predominantly in the area of a skid steer that was inside the shop fully involved. With the help of folks here at Airport Equipment Rentals, they were able to pull that out with some of their heavy equipment and then we went to work on the building itself putting out the fires that were left. We had some fire in the roof that it advanced throughout the roof structure. We put crews on the roof. We went to work opening the roof up. We got to the hot spots and put those out. Now we’re wrapping things up.”
Grimes spoke on if he knew of a cause for the fire, “Nope I don’t know what started the fire. What we found, when we got here was that the predominant amount of fire was in and around the skid steer inside the shop.”
An investigation into the fire is ongoing.
