SoHi Boys & SoHi Girls Advance To State Soccer Championship Games

The Soldotna Star soccer teams put their stamp on the ASAA State Soccer Division II Championships with a pair of semi-final victories to advance both the SoHi boys and SoHi girls into the DII state soccer championship games on Saturday at Service High School.

 

ASAA Girls Division II State Soccer Championships: Friday Semi-Finals

SoHi Girls 3 – Thunder Mountain 0

The Soldotna girls advance to the state championship game on strength of a three-goal, hat trick by Rhys Cannava as the Stars shutout Thunder Mountain 3-0 in Friday’s winner’s-bracket contest at Service High School.

Cannava scored all three goals in the first half as SoHi built a 3-0 half time lead.  Each goal featured Cannava outracing the Falcon defenders for break-away goals.

The SoHi girls will face the Juneau Crimson Bears in the Division II girls soccer championship game on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Service High School.

Juneau 3 – Homer 0

The Juneau Crimson Bears held Homer scoreless in a 3-0 Juneau victory to advance the Crimson Bears to the DII girls championship game.

Homer will play Thunder Mountain for third place in Division II girls soccer on Saturday at Service High School

 

ASAA Boys Division II State Soccer Championships: Friday Semi-Finals

SoHi Boys 3 – Juneau 1

Maleda Dembrock opened the scoring for the SoHi boys with an early first half goal and Josh Heiber added a penalty kick goal for a 2-0 SoHi lead.  Juneau drew to within a goal at 2-1 before Jose Montague closed the scoring in the second half for a 3-1 SoHi victory over the Crimson Bears.

The Star boys face Thunder Mountain in the Division II boys championship game on Saturday at1:30 p.m. at Service High School.

Thunder Mountain Boys 3 – Kenai 1

The Kardinal boys managed only a single goal in a 3-1 loss to Thunder Mountain in Friday’s semi-final pairing at the state soccer championships.

Trailing 3-0, Kenai’s Leif Lofguist scored for the Kardinals.

Kenai faces Juneau in the Division II third-place game at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday at West Anchorage High.
