The Homer Mariners softball program continued its dominance of conference tournament play with a fourth-straight conference tournament championship and earning a 20th berth to the ASAA State Softball Championships.
The Mariners defeated the tournament’s top seed Kodiak in the championship game on Saturday in Houston 18-17 in a scoring fest to win the Northern Lights Conference tournament and conference #1 seed to the Division II state championships.
The Kodiak Bears advanced to the championship game, rebounding from a first round loss on Friday to the #4 seed Soldotna Stars 18-10.
The SoHi girls opened tournament play on Friday with a 16-1, three inning victory over Houston. The Stars downed Kodiak in game two on Friday before falling to Homer 14-6 in the semi-final. The Mariners opened with a 13-6 win over Palmer.
Homer and Kodiak will represent the Northern Lights Conference at the 2021 ASAA Division II State Softball Championships set for the Cartee Fields in Anchorage on Friday and Saturday, June 3-5.
