The Alaska Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management reports that on Wednesday, August 11 at 10:20 a.m., a test will be conducted of the National Emergency Alert System and Wireless Emergency Alert System. On television and radio, the test will resemble the required monthly test. On cell phones, the test message will be received by phone configured to receive emergency messages. No action is required.

This week’s testing will be the sixth test of the nationwide public alert and warning systems and has been planned since June 2020. The test’s purpose is to assess the effectiveness of the Emergency Alert System to receive and convey a national message via radio and television, and of the Wireless Emergency Alerts infrastructure to deliver a test message to mobile phones.
